Chemours
Overview
Chemours (The Chemours Company) is a global specialty chemical company and a major manufacturer of fluorinated compounds, including the Opteon and Vertrel fluid families used as two-phase immersion cooling fluids in data center applications. As a producer of PFAS-containing compounds, Chemours occupies a central position in the data center cooling industry's PFAS regulatory challenge: current two-phase immersion fluids are entirely PFAS-based, and chemical manufacturers like Chemours must develop next-generation non-PFAS or low-PFAS alternatives while navigating European ECHA ban timelines and US EPA TSCA frameworks.
At the 2023 OCP Global Summit, Chemours participated in the panel on PFAS challenges for two-phase immersion cooling, with Brandon Marshall representing the company. The panel highlighted that Chemours and other chemical manufacturers need to be active OCP specification contributors — not just end-users — in order to co-design boiling enhancement coatings and cold plate geometries alongside new fluid chemistries.
