Overview

David Bach is a lead author of the OCP Data Center NVMe SSD specification, employed at Dell. At OCP Global Summit 2025 in San Jose he praised Micron as pioneers in implementing OCP telemetry and offered an authoritative clarification of what "human readable" means in the specification: it refers to the pretty-printed output produced after nvme-cli combines the binary telemetry data pulled from the drive with the vendor-supplied C9h strings file — the raw data coming off the drive is still binary. The clarification resolves a common misreading of the SEC-22 human-readable requirement, distinguishing the human-readable end product from the on-drive data format.
