Medium Purification Module
Overview
The Medium Purification Module (MPM) is the core quality-control component of pure water coolant systems. It uses nuclear-grade non-regenerative resin for ion purification — absorbing ionic compounds from the coolant to maintain low conductivity — and generates zero wastewater while requiring no electrical energy. The MPM is a replaceable cartridge with a lifespan of 1–5 years depending on system conditions; replacement is triggered by a conductivity alarm rather than a fixed schedule.
TCT compared the MPM (ion polishing approach) against two alternative purification methods. EDI (Electrodeionization) polishing achieves similar conductivity results but requires 3 kW/MW, produces less than 1% wastewater, and has a 10-year lifespan. RO (Reverse Osmosis) purification is more expensive, physically larger, wastes 5–20% water, and requires 8–12 kW/MW with a 5-year lifespan. Ion polishing via MPM is TCT's preferred approach: cheap, customizable, small, zero wastewater, and no electrical energy.
In TCT's five-year China verification project (Core Switch Server Liquid Cooling System, Guizhou Province, July 2018 – June 2023), only one MPM replacement was required across the full operational period despite unmanned operation — demonstrating the low maintenance burden of the MPM approach at production scale.
