Overview

Microsoft operates one of the largest hyperscale cloud infrastructures in the world through its Azure platform, running data centers across dozens of regions globally. Microsoft's data center engineering organization drives innovation in power architecture, cybersecurity, and automation, with growing emphasis on the infrastructure demands of AI workloads. The company is a significant contributor to open industry standards and maintains deep partnerships with utilities and equipment manufacturers.

Within the OCP Data Center Facilities group, Microsoft co-leads workstreams on sustainability, DC automation, and the newly launched Power sub-project. Its technical contributions at the 2025 summit were particularly notable in two areas: solid-state transformer business cases and roadmaps, and superconducting power architectures using high-temperature superconducting cables. Microsoft also brought substantial cybersecurity expertise to the DC automation discussion, reflecting the company's emphasis on securing increasingly automated facility operations.
