Peter Troy

Overview

Peter Troy manages the drive platform team at Pure Storage and leads its high-capacity QLC drive form factor work. At the 2025 OCP Global Summit storage track he recounted Pure's decade-plus journey toward large-capacity QLC drives: Pure began more than 10 years ago by buying off-the-shelf SSDs but quickly hit thermal, power, airflow, and real-estate limits in the dominant U.2 form factor. Troy presented Pure's interim U.2 long form factor, which extends a U.2 tray to reach 300 terabytes and is shipping in upcoming quarters, while Pure contributed its learnings to the newly ratified E2 standard. He showed Pure's first working P0 E2 prototype running IO in the lab via an adapter to a Gen 4 or Gen 5 by-four slot, noting no production server was yet available.
