Virtual Cell Model
Overview
A virtual cell model is a computational system that simulates what would occur inside a cell if specific genes, proteins, or other molecular actors were perturbed. The goal is counterfactual prediction: given a genetic or chemical intervention, predict the resulting gene expression profile, phenotype, or cellular state. Virtual cell models are a central aspiration of AI-driven biology, promising to compress or replace expensive wet-lab perturbation experiments.
