FBOSS

Overview

FBOSS (Facebook Open Switching System) is Meta's open-source network operating system for managing Ethernet switches at hyperscale. FBOSS manages switches through the OCP Switch Abstraction Interface (SAI), enabling a common management plane across multiple ASIC vendors. Meta runs FBOSS at gigawatt scale across OCP regions, with switch hardware built on Broadcom, Cisco, and NVIDIA Ethernet ASICs.

At OCP Global Summit 2025, Meta announced that FBOSS was extended to support NVIDIA's Spectrum-4 ASIC through contributed SAI layer changes developed in collaboration with NVIDIA, allowing the new Minipack3N switch to be managed as part of Meta's FBOSS network. This made NVIDIA's Spectrum-4 the third switch ASIC family in Meta's FBOSS-managed fleet.
