IO Chiplet
Overview
An IO Chiplet is a small, standardized semiconductor die designed to be integrated into GPU, XPU, or custom accelerator packages via a chiplet interface, providing that accelerator with UALink-compatible scale-up I/O without requiring the accelerator vendor to design and validate a full custom transport layer. The UALink Consortium is developing an IO chiplet specification to define an open market of interchangeable IO chiplets — enabling any accelerator from top-end GPUs to custom XPUs to gain UALink connectivity by integrating an off-the-shelf IO chiplet. This approach allows silicon vendors to focus differentiation on compute while standardizing the transport, reducing per-vendor development cost and accelerating UALink ecosystem adoption.
