Intrepid NEXUS Backplane
Overview
The Intrepid NEXUS Backplane is Luxshare-Tech's 224G PAM4 high-density cable backplane connector system targeting scale-up AI rack midplane applications. The NEXUS connector features a 2.4×2.4 mm pitch with an independent differential pair architecture providing 80 differential pairs per square inch, ground shielding, and robust shrouded pin design for blind/brute-mate applications. The guide pin system enables ±3 mm X/Y and 4 mm Z floating to accommodate cable cartridge mechanical tolerances, with a mating force of 1.35N per differential pair.
Signal integrity performance: measured SI with 30 AWG 325 mm 92-ohm cable shows insertion loss below 10 dB at 53–60 GHz, NEXT and FEXT both below PXI background noise floor below 40 GHz and below approximately 60 dB up to 53–60 GHz. The NEXUS is validated for 53 GHz (224G PAM4) with a design path to 75 GHz; Luxshare-Tech conservatively rates it at 224 Gbps but believes it supports 300 Gbps. Impedance profile transitions smoothly from 85-ohm PCB trace through the compression pin footprint to 90–92-ohm bulk cable.
The NEXUS product family is the third generation of Luxshare-Tech's Intrepid backplane roadmap: Intrepid EVO (112G PAM4) → Intrepid APEX (224G high-density) → Intrepid NEXUS (targeting 448G, TBD). Samples were available Q3 2025 with mass production planned shortly after.
