Open Chiplet Firmware

Overview

Open chiplet firmware is an emerging area of firmware development addressing the management and control interfaces for chiplet-based processors — multi-die systems where individual chiplets from different sources are assembled into a unified processor package. As chiplet architectures proliferate across the industry (driven by advanced packaging technologies and disaggregated design methodologies), firmware must evolve to manage cross-chiplet communication, power management, and diagnostic interfaces in a standardized way.

As of October 2025, AMI identified open chiplet firmware as a significant future technology shift and is positioning itself for thought leadership in this space, with planned contributions to OCP on the topic expected at future events including OCP Barcelona.
