SanDisk

Overview

SanDisk is a storage vendor that develops high-capacity enterprise solid state drives, with 128TB, 256TB, and even 1-petabyte drives on its product roadmaps. To address the growing cost of preconditioning these large drives, SanDisk developed Sprandom, a fast pseudo-random preconditioning method, and integrated it into the open-source FIO benchmarking tool (version 3.41, merged at the end of August 2025). SanDisk has been using Sprandom to accelerate its own SSD testing and development, and released it as open source because it believes the method has broad value to the storage community.
