ScaleFlux

Overview

ScaleFlux is a fabless semiconductor company based in Milpitas, California, whose core competency is logic design for memory and storage; it sells branded NVMe drives with NAND partners and provides SSD enablement and customization services, and has been making NVMe drives for 10 years as of 2025. It is active in the OCP storage project, having contributed a reference design counted among the project's 2024 milestones. ScaleFlux launched its first SoC, the SFX 3000 (PCIe Gen 4), in 2022 with ARM A53 cores, transparent compression, and OCP 2.5/2.6 compliance, followed by the A53-based FX5016 (PCIe Gen 5). It then made a strategic early jump to the ARM Cortex-R82 core for the FC5116 (PCIe Gen 5) and FC6116 (PCIe Gen 6): adopting R82 in Gen 5 silicon let the Gen 6 firmware be a direct port from the same architecture. The R82-based FC6116 targets market-leading Gen 6 NVMe performance under a 6.5W power budget without moving to a smaller lithography node, and ScaleFlux aims to be the first third-party Gen 6 NVMe SoC vendor to market.
