Overview

The University of Illinois is the academic origin of the GPU-initiated storage research presented at the 2025 OCP Global Summit. Vikram Mailthody came from Illinois as a student of Wen-mei Hwu before driving the research side of the GPU-initiated storage and SCADA project, making the university the research lineage behind the effort to reinvent the GPU for fine-grained, massively concurrent NVMe access.
