Wen-mei Hwu

Overview

Wen-mei Hwu is the University of Illinois academic advisor under whom Vikram Mailthody studied before driving the research behind GPU-initiated storage. At the 2025 OCP Global Summit, CJ Newburn cited Hwu when introducing Mailthody as "a student of Wen-mei Hwu who's been driving the research side of a lot of this project," locating the origin of the GPU-initiated storage and SCADA effort in Hwu's Illinois research group.
