Overview

Arthur is a product manager at cable supplier MOSE. At the 2025 OCP Global Summit storage track he presented how cable suppliers can support the new EDSFF E2 form factor with a hybrid orthogonal connector solution. He explained that traditional backplanes route all high-speed signals through the PCB, making them expensive and complex and forcing a re-spin every PCIe generation (Gen 4 to Gen 5 to Gen 6). MOSE's hybrid solution instead routes high-speed signals through a cable to a silver SFF-TA-1002 connector, while sideband, clock, and power travel through a cheap 4-layer FR4 backplane.
