Overview

Jeff is a security expert at Google who co-presented the OCP L.O.C.K. and TCG MEK-MPA material at the 2025 OCP Global Summit storage session, fielding the deep-dive Q&A alongside Charles. He was also slated to give a separate low-level key-management deep-dive session, rescheduled to 11:10 in room 211 at the summit. In Q&A, Jeff explained that lock can create a media encryption key (MEK) in two ways — generating a random key encrypted at rest (the Opal model) or deriving it from given secrets such as a host-provided data protection key (DPK) — and that the derive-from-secrets path is how keeper.io is supported.
