Jonathan Balance

Overview

Jonathan Balance is CEO of Iceotope, a precision immersion cooling company that uses environmentally safe dielectric mineral oil circulated within IT enclosures to achieve 100% thermal efficiency. Balance presented at the 2025 OCP Global Summit arguing that compute represents only 60-70% of rack heat load, making full-stack liquid cooling (including storage, networking, and power) essential.

Iceotope has worked for over a decade with hyperscalers, OEMs, and silicon companies. Balance highlighted that Iceotope's dielectric fluid alone can support 300 kW per rack, and combined with cold plates can exceed 1 MW per rack if IT equipment availability allows. He cited a partnership with Meta initiated over 5 years ago to build a liquid-immersed JBOD storage system with hot-swappable spinning drives directly touching the dielectric fluid, achieving a 30% reduction in drive failure from eliminated fan vibration.
