Overview

Madhavan Ravi is a Hardware Systems Engineer at Meta whose responsibility is to design and deploy storage hardware servers inside Meta. At OCP Global Summit 2025 he co-presented, with Jesse Koh, Meta's first QLC flash storage server — a 2U ORv3 chassis with 24 U.2-long drive slots. Ravi covered the server's design decisions and the business case for QLC, and laid out the future scaling roadmap: the move toward single-socket CPU platforms (the two-socket CPU already drawing more power than all 24 drives), networking pressure as drive density grows, thermal limits driving the shift to the E2 drive form factor for next-generation servers, and Meta's call for industry participation in the OCP Datacenter NVMe SSD specification for QLC.
