Open Rack v3
Overview
Open Rack v3 (ORv3) is OCP's 21-inch open rack standard built around a 48V DC busbar, and it is the deployment platform for Meta's first QLC flash storage server. Meta's QLC server is an ORv3-based 2U ("two open rack unit") chassis with 24 front-accessible drive slots, aligning the design with Meta's high-volume product deployments. To reach ORv3 quickly, Meta's OEM partner Jabil adapted an existing EIA 19-inch server chassis to ORv3 by changing its power architecture to the 48V busbar and adding BMC-level per-server power control (allowing power to the entire server to be controlled without leaving the chassis) — an adaptation that helped land the first ORv3-compliant QLC rack in only eight months. Both the 21-inch ORv3 and the 19-inch EIA designs were contributed to OCP as an OCP Inspired Specification.
