Perstorp

Overview

Perstorp is a Swedish specialty chemicals company with over 140 years of history, rated in the EcoVadis Platinum top 1% for sustainability. It is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Petronas Chemicals Group Berhad (PCG), Malaysia's leading integrated chemicals provider under the broader Petronas Group. Perstorp operates technology centers dedicated to data center liquid cooling in Sweden, China, and Malaysia, with capabilities spanning molecular design, fluid formulation, thermal simulation, and OEM/ODM material compatibility testing.

For data center cooling, Perstorp's SYNMERSE portfolio comprises three PFAS-free biodegradable synthetic ester fluids for both direct-to-chip and immersion applications:

• SYNMERSE DC-L: 5.6 cSt viscosity, 180°C flash point — low viscosity for DTC applications
• SYNMERSE DC: 16 cSt, 247°C flash point — general DTC with strong thermal and oxidation stability
• SYNMERSE DC-R: 29 cSt, 263°C flash point — high flash/fire point for fire-safety critical environments

All three have volume resistivity >1×10¹² Ω·cm (dielectric), zero ozone depletion potential, and low global warming potential. Perstorp tested Synmerse fluids with over 200 material types (seals, metals, plastics, cables, hoses) in cooperation with OEMs and ODMs, validated against OCP Immersion Requirements Rev 2.10. By conscious raw material sourcing, the Synmerse DC product carbon footprint can be reduced a further 92% beyond its already-low baseline.

In collaboration with Intel and Inventec, Perstorp's DTC fluid combined with Intel SuperFluid technology achieved 930 W TDP at 0.5 L/min and 1,100 W TDP at 0.7 L/min, reducing thermal resistance by 8.8–11.4% versus the non-SuperFluid baseline.
