Redfish

Overview

Redfish is a DMTF-defined RESTful API standard for server hardware management. It replaces disparate legacy bus protocols (I2C, SGPL, GPL, USB, BIOS SSIF) with a unified interface covering state register reads, device telemetry, health status, firmware updates, and power/thermal controls. In AI GPU server contexts, Redfish dramatically simplifies diagnosis automation by exposing all server subsystems through a single API layer.

Aivres's adoption with Open BMC illustrates the practical deployment pattern: a Server RAS catalog provides error logs, system impacts, and event handling; a Telemetry catalog provides Redfish API descriptions for all device telemetries; and firmware updates are dispatched via PLDM Type 5 alongside Redfish and IPMI interfaces. The BMC interface exposes live GPU temperatures and device health indicators through the same Redfish endpoints.
