Solidigm

Overview

Solidigm is a data center SSD manufacturer leading the industry transition to liquid-cooled storage. At PCIe Gen 5, Solidigm's lab data shows multiple SSD form factors already require inlet air below ASHRAE A2's 35°C limit; PCIe Gen 7 devices (projected 60-70W each) will make air cooling definitively impossible.

The company's PS1010 product line spans an air-cooled 15mm E1.S variant and a 9.5mm variant designed specifically for liquid-cooled platforms, delivering approximately 100x better cooling energy efficiency. Solidigm engineered a spring-activated cold plate integration mechanism where the cold plate auto-engages on drive insertion and releases without stress on removal, solving the hot-swap serviceability problem. A single cold plate design contacts either PCB side and cools all components on both sides simultaneously.

As of October 2025, Solidigm submitted a draft specification through SNIA (OCP Alliance partner) addressing surface flatness tolerances, cold plate attachment surface guidance, and angled edges for hot-swap insertion; the spec was under SNIA member review. Solidigm and Iceotope have joint customers deploying Iceotope servers with Solidigm liquid-cooled SSDs.
