Steven Sprouse

Overview

Steven Sprouse is an engineer at SanDisk who has spent nearly 20 years at the company. At the 2025 OCP Global Summit he presented Sprandom, a method his team developed to accelerate random preconditioning of solid state drives as capacities scale to 64TB, 128TB and beyond. He recounts beginning his career on a 1GB USB drive and moving up to roughly 1TB enterprise drives, framing the preconditioning bottleneck that Sprandom addresses. Sprouse invited the storage community to submit feedback, bug reports, and improvement ideas through the FIO GitHub repository's Q&A and discussion sections, or by emailing him directly (stephen.sprouse@sandisk.com).
