Summary
Rittal presents its approach to power distribution for AI data centers, focusing on copper consumption reduction through architectural choices and its RiLineX busbar system. The presentation demonstrates that switching from traditional busway power distribution to remote power panels (RPPs) can reduce copper usage by 65% (from 110 kg to 37 kg for a 3x333kW rack setup), and further to 20 kg (additional 45% reduction) when using 800V DC sidecar architecture. The Friedhelm Loh Group subsidiary positions RiLineX as the core technology for next-generation power distribution in AI data centers.
RiLineX is Rittal's newest innovation in busbar systems, already fulfilling the OCP Diablo 400 specification published by Meta, Google, and Microsoft. The system supports up to 1,000V AC and 1,500V DC, is touch-protected to IP2X (upgradeable to IP4X), uses standard flat copper busbars, and can be mounted horizontally or vertically. It supports hot-swapping of components for maintenance, with integrated cable routing at the rear up to 3x35 mm2. Remote power panels built with RiLineX achieve 1.1 MW total power rating with 160A circuit breakers per outgoing.
Rittal has adopted an open platform strategy for RiLineX, providing all technical interface data to technology partners free of charge (no license, subscription, or buyout required). Partners can design active components (circuit breakers, etc.) with direct connection interfaces to RiLineX boards, eliminating the need for adapter components. Products meeting the interface spec receive "Ready for RiLineX" labeling.
