Caliptra

Overview

Caliptra is an OCP open-source hardware root-of-trust (RoT) specification that uniquely provides both the specification and a full open-source RTL implementation. The inclusion of a reference implementation eliminates the spec-ambiguity problem endemic to traditional standards: because all vendors can use the same implementation, divergent interpretations across different silicon are prevented, achieving consistent security properties across the supply chain.

Caliptra is a collaborative project involving Google, AMD, NVIDIA, Microsoft, and other OCP contributors. It provides the hardware anchor point for secure firmware attestation, cryptographic key management, and manufacturing lifecycle control in data center components.

Version 2.1 (delivered by October 2025) added:

The Trusted Computing Group published a complementary specification defining the host interface for OCP Lock, extending Caliptra's reach from the device to the host system.
