Neocloud

Overview

Neocloud is a category of AI-focused cloud infrastructure providers that emerged alongside traditional hyperscalers (AWS, Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure) to serve the explosive demand for AI model training and inference compute. The neocloud landscape has two primary segments: (1) GPU cloud companies (Lambda, Nebius, CoreWeave, Crusoe) operating a "Build-to-Rent" model providing GPU compute on demand; and (2) sovereign neocloud operators (YTL, Tata, G42 and approximately 20 others as of October 2024) that leverage existing utility and infrastructure assets to build AI data centers for regional markets.

Neoclouds represent a fundamental shift in who builds AI data centers, supplementing the three traditional categories of hyperscalers, self-build end users (Meta, xAI, ByteDance), and AI model providers (OpenAI, Anthropic). The emergence of this category diversifies the customer base for AI infrastructure ODMs like Wiwynn.
